Role: Shift Supervisor


Reporting to: Production Manager

Responsible for : Machine Operatives, General Operatives

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Must have a good working knowledge of production and quality processes and systems

  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Knowledge and experience of Lean manufacturing concepts and managing by metrics

  • Experience of shift work

Essential Skills:

  • Practical level–headed individual with a strong technical ability

  • Self-starter with excellent motivational, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstratable success in supervising a team in a production environment

  • IT skills – ERP system use is an important part of the job

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Day to day management of production areas and associated operators whilst maximising production capacity and resources

  • Liaising with the engineering department on programming, setting and operation of CNC machines, technical trouble shoot machine and process

  • Ensuring equipment, machinery, tools & gauges are maintained and in working order

  • Monitoring, measuring and reporting on production related performance and maintenance issues

  • Organising tooling and material in accordance with the production schedule

  • Working closely with other Shift Supervisors to ensure smooth production handover and participating in daily production meetings

  • Facilitating the effective implementation of new product introduction

  • Achievement of manufacturing targets and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Maintaining 6S at a high level within the production area through the involvement of all team members

  • Managing the adherence to all product specifications required for compliance with quality standards and customer expectations

  • Completing and updating work instructions and set up sheets

  • Leading and participating in continuous improvement activities

  • Identifying training needs for current and future skill requirements

  • Monitoring employee timekeeping and absenteeism and addressing any concerns

  • Ensuring employees adhere to company policies and procedures at all times

  • Creating and maintaining an environment of teamwork and participation

  • Ensuring effective resourcing of the production areas; including scheduling of holiday and overtime approval

  • Effectively communicating with all staff members

  • Maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring that all Health and Safety requirements and procedures are adhered to, including the correct use of all Personal Protective Equipment and the maintenance of appropriate Housekeeping standards

  • Ensure all incidents and accidents are accurately reported in a timely manner using the appropriate reporting systems

  • Any other duties as reasonably required
