Role: Production Manager


Overall Objective: To ensure the effective and efficient operation of the production area and all related production activities.  
Reporting to: Operations Manager

Responsibilities & Duties :

The production manager forms a key part of the Operations function and is responsible for:

• Resource management - effective and efficient use of available resources to manufacture products that meet or exceed customer requirements for cost, quality, delivery and service.

• Utilise business systems and software tools to analyse reports on production capacity and requirements related to forecasted units by product and identify methods for improving productivity and reducing overall manufacturing costs via lean manufacturing and robust problem-solving teams.

• Work with management team in planning and scheduling staff and equipment resources to meet production demands.

• Troubleshoot production processes to correct product issues and improve process control.

• Coordinate modifications to production processes with Engineering, Quality and other functional areas.

• Motivate and develop line leaders and team members.

• Report on monthly metrics, and ensure ongoing measurement identifying progress, issues and corrective action status and status of planned projects.

• Promote and develop a culture of continuous improvement.

• Support the wider management team.

• Any other duties as reasonably required.

- Safety

• Maintain health and safety standards for the production area.

• Ensures production areas are kept clean and tidy in line with 6S standards.

• Ensure all operators are wearing full PPE.

• Ensures all accident reports are completed in the instance of an accident occurring.

• Suggests and Implements Opportunities for Improvement relating to Health and Safety.

- Quality

• Works with quality departments to ensure parts produced are as per agreed quality specifications.

• Ensures that records & documentation needed for quality and traceability are maintained.

• Ensure customer quality requirements are met.

• Ensures all work instructions are developed and trained out relevant to the areas.

• Maintains and updates the training matrix for the area ensuring cross functional training takes place.

• Ensures all production staff are trained to an adequate level on machining, set up, and change overs.

• Suggests and Implements Opportunities for Improvement relating to Quality of parts.

- Delivery

• Works with cross functional teams to ensure customers delivery dates are achieved.

• Co-ordinates parts being produced as per production plan as laid out by the operational planning lead.

• Works in tandem with the 2nd processing, and shipping supervisors to ensure deliveries are completed as per order schedule.

• Liaise daily with second process supervisor to ensure parts are moving from machining to 2nd processing in a timely manner.

- Cost

• Identify opportunities to improve service, minimize scrap, and reduce manufacturing costs, including effective management and improvement of inventory.

• Awareness of cycle times, variances to quote and opportunities to improve cycle times.

• Awareness and adherence to monthly sales targets.

• Maintenance of ERP system.

• Initiate and support projects that will enhance operations in line with company objectives.

• Develops & engages with KPI’s that show the effectiveness of the production areas.

• Reviews and efficiently manages overtime relating to the areas.

• Continuously review resources to ensure effective functioning of the department.

Qualifications & Experience:

• The ideal candidate will hold a qualification in engineering or production management.

• Proven experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.

• Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations, quality management systems, and production processes.

• Experience in engineering with a CNC machining background will be advantageous.

• Experience in implementing and leading continuous improvement projects.
